  16. I have read the INSTALL document on how to install
  17. TeX. I have, however, encountered a problem: "Cannot
  18. find plain.mf".

  20. Could you please shed some light on what I need to do next. Thx!

  22. This is what I did:

  24. 1. ftp the TeX sources
  25.  ftp ...
  26.  cd /tex-archive/systems/web2c
  27.  get web.tar.gz
  28.  get web2c.tar.gz
  29.  
  30. 2. gunzip the files at /usr/local
  31.  cd /usr/local
  32.  gunzip web.tar.gz
  33.  gunzip web2c.tar.gz
  34.  
  35. 3. configure and then make
  36.  cd web2c-6.1
  37.  #edit Makefile.in and remove "-g" from CFLAGS
  38.  ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/tex
  39.  make
  40.  ....
